Rakul Preet Singh has responded to reports linking her to recent Income Tax searches in Mumbai, firmly denying that the search action was related to her. The actor took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle to address what she described as sensationalised and unverified reporting, asserting that she has complied with her tax obligations and has no involvement in illegal foreign remittances or benami property.
Her clarification comes days after the Income Tax Department reportedly conducted searches at multiple locations connected to people and entities associated with the film industry. The searches were reportedly part of an investigation into suspected financial irregularities and alleged overseas movement of funds linked to film financing.

Taking to X (previously Twitter), Rakul Preet Singh addressed the reports and criticised what she described as speculation published without adequate verification.In her statement, the actor wrote, “It's heartbreaking to see that There's a growing trend amongst the self styled online reporters & some main stream media journalists to sensationalise the news without verifying facts. Let's therefore set the record straight once for all. The search was not pertaining to me.”Rakul also highlighted her background and said she had built her career without industry connections.
“Let it be known that I am from the Armed Forces background & had no Godfather in the Industry. I have come up through sheer hardwork & as a responsible law abiding citizen have been paying my due taxes since the age of 20 years.”
Rakul denies illegal foreign remittance allegations
The actor went on to specifically reject reports suggesting that she could be connected to questionable financial transactions.“I am not involved in any kind of illegal Foreign remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house.
I would also add here that I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad. Neither anyone has ever gifted me any property at anytime nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a principle.”
Rakul Preet Singh urges media outlets to retract reports
Rakul further called on publications and journalists who carried what she described as false or speculative reports to correct the record.“I urge all those who published these false, malicious and speculative reports to retract them and clarify the facts.
I understand that everyone running a media business however big has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone's reputation and livelihood.”The actor's comments came as reports about the Income Tax action continued to circulate across media platforms.
What were the Income Tax searches about?
The Mumbai Income Tax Department reportedly carried out searches at 12 locations as part of an investigation into suspected financial irregularities. Reports said the action involved locations connected to Rakul Preet Singh, her father-in-law and film producer Vashu Bhagnani, as well as Panorama Studios. The investigation was reportedly examining allegations that funds may have been routed overseas under the pretext of financing film projects.Rakul, however, has categorically stated that the search was not pertaining to her and has denied the specific allegations made against her in reports.
