Indonesian govt seeks more MSME suppliers for free meals program

Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Maman Abdurrahman urged more MSMEs to supply the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which currently has 68,000 MSME suppliers.
“Some 68,000 MSMEs currently supply the program. We are continuing to encourage other MSMEs to become suppliers,” he said in Makassar on Sunday.
Maman said the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) was focusing on reorganizing its internal operations.
As BGN and the MSME Ministry consolidate their institutional coordination, he is also encouraging micro and small businesses to join the supply chains of national nutrition programs.
Maman said MSME participation in BGN’s ecosystem was more than a formality, describing it as a sustainable strategy to empower the grassroots economy and directly improve community welfare.
“Under Sudaryono’s leadership, BGN is reorganizing internally and taking strategic steps to strengthen its institutional foundations before expanding field programs more broadly and systematically,” he said.
The restructuring covers administrative governance, standard operating procedures and procurement systems better adapted to the needs of local businesses, he said.
“The MSME Ministry has a crucial role here. We are developing collaboration models to ensure MSMEs are not merely participants but key beneficiaries of spending on national nutrition programs,” he said.
Maman said he hoped the number of MSME suppliers would increase significantly in the near future.
