EXCLUSIVE: Katherine Waterston (The Agency, The Uprising) is the latest star to join the cast of Paramount+‘s limited series The Best of Us, which has been shooting in New York City since last month. She will star opposite Jeremy Strong in the upcoming six-episode limited series inspired by the David vs. Goliath fight that won justice for 9/11’s ailing heroes.

Waterston will play Amy Smith, a lawyer and the soon-to-be ex-wife of Jason (Strong).

From writers Tobias Lindholm and Frank Pugliese, the 6-episode series The Best of Us dramatizes a landmark case that reshaped the fight for accountability: a relentless legal war that stretched nearly a decade to secure almost $1 billion in compensation for first responders who fell gravely ill in the wake of 9/11.

Strong leads the cast as renowned class action lawyer Jason Smith, who risked everything to take on entrenched institutions, exposing the politics, greed, corruption, and betrayal that compounded tragedy, set against the emergency workers’ remarkable unity and bravery as the World Trade Center was collapsing.

In addition to Strong, the previously announced cast also includes Barry Pepper as Coach, a former NYPD police officer and 9/11 first responder suffering from leukemia due to his work at Ground Zero; Andrea Riseborough as Molly, Coach’s resilient wife; Neal Huff as Peter Allen, Jason’s pragmatic colleague at the law firm; Gaby Hoffmann as Kathleen McCormick, a seasoned FDNY firefighter and activist; Sky Yang as The Lost Son, a young and mysterious homeless man; and John Slattery as James Leavitt, a highly experienced and formidable defense lawyer.

The guest cast includes LaChanze, Richard Schiff, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Joe Morton, Jen Tullock, William Baldwin, and Keith W. Richards.

Produced by Paramount Television Studios and Sister, the limited series is written, directed, and executive produced by Lindholm and written and executive produced by Pugliese. Strong is also an executive producer, along with Tony Hernandez.

Waterston was recently seen in Paul Greengrass’ The Uprising and in the second season of the Paramount+ series The Agency alongside Michael Fassbender. Before that, she starred in Fackham Hall, a British Period Comedy written by Jimmy Carr. Additional credits include the latest installment in the Fear Street franchise, Prom Queen, The End We Start From, Slow Horses, Perry Mason, They Listen, Babylon, Inherent Vice, Alien: Covenant, and the Fantastic Beasts film series. Waterston is represented by UTA, Strand Entertainment, LARK Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
