Karthi and S J Suryah’s ‘Sardar 2’ OTT release date confirmed

Karthi and S J Suryah’s action thriller Sardar 2 is set to make its digital debut just three weeks after its theatrical release. Directed by P S Mithran, the sequel to the 2022 Tamil spy thriller 'Sardar' will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 1, giving audiences a chance to watch the film across multiple languages.

According to the latest streaming update, 'Sardar 2' will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video from October 1. The film will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, expanding its reach beyond its theatrical run. The sequel arrived in cinemas on September 10 and will therefore have a 21-day theatrical-to-OTT window. Its relatively quick digital premiere comes after the film received a mixed theatrical response and reportedly fell short of its expected box-office performance.

The short gap between the theatrical and digital releases has made 'Sardar 2' part of the continuing conversation around theatrical windows in the Indian film industry. The film will move to streaming only 21 days after its big-screen release, allowing viewers who missed its theatrical run to catch the sequel on Prime Video. The film continues the spy-action world established by Sardar, while expanding Karthi’s dual-role storyline with a new international threat.

‘Sardar 2’ box office collection

'Sardar 2' reportedly earned around Rs 23.85 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. Its reported India collection stood at approximately Rs 19 crore, while overseas markets contributed around Rs 4.85 crore, according to Sacnilk. The film stars Karthi in dual roles, with S J Suryah playing the international underworld figure Black Dagger.

Karthi returns as Vijay and Sardar

The story follows RAW agent Vijay as he investigates the disappearance of fellow agent Walrus.

Before his death, Walrus leaves behind a mysterious key, leading Vijay to discover that similar keys are linked to several other people and a larger conspiracy. The investigation brings Vijay into conflict with Black Dagger, who is pursuing the keys as part of a dangerous plan involving a biological threat. As the mission escalates, Vijay is once again drawn towards the legacy of his father, Sardar.

‘Sardar 2’ cast and crew

Directed by P S Mithran, Sardar 2 features Karthi, S J Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajisha Vijayan, Yogi Babu and Achyuth Kumar in key roles. Babu Antony also appears as DRDO chief Tiger Harishchandra. Sam CS has composed the music for the film, which continues the spy-thriller franchise following Sardar, released in 2022.
