KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale was detected in North Sumatra, Indonesia, at 7.37am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement today, said the earthquake was centred at coordinates 4.6 degrees north and 96.3 degrees east, at a depth of 30 kilometres (km), about 59km northeast of Meulaboh, Indonesia.
“The tremors may be felt in the western states of peninsular Malaysia,” it said.
