Thohir opens House of Indonesia for 2026 Asian Games contingent

Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir inaugurated Rumah Indonesia (House of Indonesia) in Nagoya, Japan, to support the country's contingent at the 2026 Asian Games.

Unveiled on Saturday, the facility will serve as both accommodation and a coordination hub for Indonesia's 430 athletes competing at the 20th Asian Games, which is taking place in Aichi and Nagoya from September to October.

Thohir officiated the House of Indonesia alongside Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir, Team Indonesia Chief de Mission (CdM) Todotua Pasaribu, and Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) President Raja Sapta Oktohari.

"I am proud and delighted because the House of Indonesia was essentially designed and dedicated to serving athletes who require support," the minister said in Nagoya.

Thohir, who also serves as chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), gave special recognition to Pasaribu for ensuring the facility is fully equipped to meet the needs of the Indonesian contingent.

Rumah Indonesia features bedrooms and meeting rooms. The facility has also been designated to meet the dining needs of athletes and officials throughout the Games.

Ambassador Nurmala echoed the minister's remarks, expressing pride in the establishment of a fully equipped facility for Indonesia's Asian Games contingent.

She said the site serves not only as a support facility for athletes but also as a product of Indonesia's diplomacy, describing it as a symbol of our state and a house of the motherland.

"All in all, Rumah Indonesia demonstrates the state is present for its athletes," she said, underscoring the government's commitment to encouraging and supporting the contingent in pursuit of success at the event.

Indonesia is fielding 430 athletes across 35 sports at the quadrennial event and is targeting at least four gold medals, as announced earlier by Thohir.
