Russian defender anticipates tough Eagles clash

Russian defender Arsen Adamov has described Nigeria as a very strong opponent ahead of the two countries’ international friendly on October 6, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Super Eagles will face Russia at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium during the October international break.

The 26-year-old right-back knows what to expect, having been part of the Russia team that drew 1-1 with Nigeria in June 2025.

He also expects the meeting with Iran to be a demanding one.

“This is not the first time we have played Iran and Nigeria, and these are very strong teams.

“There will be interesting matches for us and for the fans. Iran and Nigeria are very strong opponents,” Adamov said in quotes relayed by Russian site sports.ru.

Russia have three fixtures during the break. They play Iran in Kazan on September 29 and Namibia on October 3, before hosting Nigeria.

Adamov admitted he knows little about Namibia but still expects a stern test.

“The only thing is, I do not know anything about Namibia. African teams are strong. I think it will not be easy against them either,” he said.

Adamov has made nine Russian Premier League appearances for Akhmat Grozny this season, and provided an assist in their 4-1 win over Rostov on August 22.

Nigeria will enter the friendly after two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Head coach Eric Chelle’s side will host Madagascar on September 25 before travelling to Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Chelle has named separate squads for the qualifiers and the Russia friendly.
