Luhut assures investors Indonesia's economy "will not collapse"

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, reassured domestic and international investors that Indonesia's economic fundamentals remain solid and will not collapse amid global uncertainty.
Speaking at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday, he urged global business players not to hesitate to invest and collaborate in the country.
"My message to investors is very clear and simple: do not hesitate to invest in this country … Our economic fundamentals remain healthy, and our long-term prospects are very strong … Indonesia will not collapse," Luhut said.
While acknowledging that Indonesia still faces various internal challenges, he emphasized that the government continues to actively address these issues while strengthening domestic industries, governance, and human resources.
Furthermore, Luhut revealed that the direction of Indonesia's investment cooperation has now shifted.
According to him, the Indonesian government is no longer merely targeting technology transfers, but is instead pushing for joint innovation and the development of local human resources.
In the nickel, battery, and electric vehicle (EV) sectors, for instance, Luhut urged international partners to build joint laboratories, train local engineers, and provide young Indonesian researchers real-world problems to solve.
He highlighted the importance of directly involving young Indonesian engineers in research and development alongside international partners.
The DEN chairman noted that early-stage research requires patient capital. Promising technologies also need pilot projects, while successful pilots require funding support to scale up.
To support sustained investment, Luhut assured that the Indonesian government is committed to maintaining policy consistency and streamlining bureaucratic procedures to ensure that investment commitments translate into concrete results.
