KUALA LUMPUR: A Road Transport Department (RTD) officer was killed and another seriously injured after their vehicle was involved in an accident with two lorries at the Senawang interchange on the North-South Expressway last night.

RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the two officers were on patrol duty during their respective shifts on the highway when the incident occurred.

"Based on the initial report we received, there were two lorries, and the RTD vehicle was on patrol when it stopped a lorry in the emergency lane near the Senawang interchange.

"Suddenly, another lorry rammed into the rear of both the RTD vehicle and the container lorry, causing the accident," he told Buletin TV3 when contacted today.

He said one RTD officer was confirmed dead, while the other sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban.

Aedy Fadly said the department would give its full cooperation to the police in further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether negligence was involved.
