Anwar urges Harimau Malaya to 'give your best' against Vietnam

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Harimau Malaya to give their best and fight with determination in their third-place playoff against Vietnam in the 2026 FIFA Asean Cup.

"Fight with full determination and give your best for the badge on your chest. Malaysians are behind you.

"Best of luck to the Harimau Malaya squad in the third-place playoff against Vietnam," he said in a social media post.

"Hopefully, this match will not require too much extra time."

Kick-off is at 4pm today at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Harimau Malaya last beat Vietnam in 2014, defeating the hosts 4-2 in Hanoi in the second leg of the Asean Championship semi-finals to reach the final with a 5-4 aggregate win.

Since then, Harimau Malaya have lost their last nine meetings with Vietnam, following a 2-2 draw in 2018.

Interim coach Tan Cheng Hoe said beating Vietnam had long been an ambition, but acknowledged the challenge awaiting his players.
