Netflix is reviving a beloved Western classic.
The Little House phenomenon began as a semi-autobiographical book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder in 1932, based on her life in the 19th century. Since the novel series' release, it was remade into a TV series released in 1974 and has continued its legacy for nearly 100 years, with Netflix taking on the influential lives of Little House's characters.
Netflix has officially announced that its remake of a classic 91-year-old Western franchise, Little House on the Prairie, has wrapped production on season 2 while also welcoming new cast members to the upcoming season. The original cast returning includes Alice Halsey (Laura Ingalls), Luke Bracey (Charles Ingalls), Crosby Fitzgerald (Caroline Ingalls), Skywalker Hughes (Mary Ingalls), Warren Christie (John Edwards), Willa Dunn (Nellie Oleson), Rachelle Lefevre (Eva Beadle), and Charlotte Sullivan (Margaret Oleson). Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine shared a statement about the exciting update:
"All of our incredible cast additions this year have made this season in Walnut Grove absolutely magical. I'm so grateful to our hard-working crew, who worked tirelessly to make this new chapter come to life, and our partners at CBS Studios, Anonymous Content, and Netflix for being our unwavering champions."
New characters are being added to the series, including David Wronko playing the role of Thomas Perry, who is "the cute and whip-smart son of Walnut Grove’s wealthiest family. Thomas is a big fish in a small pond and plans to attend college in New York." American Hostage's Erik Athavale is joining, as Reverend Alden described as "the warm, welcoming, and energetic minister of Walnut Grove’s Congregational church, who sees the best in everyone. Progressive and kind."
Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.
Elyse Levesque, known for Ready or Not, is joining Little House on the Prairie season 2 as the wife of Luther Perry named Emma. She is described as "Born and bred wealthy, she’s refined yet charitable, she secretly calls the shots for her husband’s business." The Night Agent's Graham Harvey will play Johnny Johnson, who is "the son of Norwegian immigrants, Johnny is a gentle and kindhearted farm boy who has never been to school, but has a soul that runs deep."
More stars joining Little House on the Prairie season 2 include Jacinta Forest Lewitski as Hannah Walker, Lyla Porter-Follows as Mrs. Lena Nelson, Martin Roach as Simon Hughes, Paul Greene as Luther Perry, Ryan Northcott as William Oleson, and Scott Porter as Peter Ingalls.
At the time of writing, there is not an official release date for Netflix's Little House on the Prairie season 2, but it is expected to arrive around summer 2027.
