‘Such a Dream Come True’: Hailee Steinfeld Talks New Disney Project ‘Hexed’

Hailee Steinfeld is living the dream.

The actor and pop artist starred in Ryan Coogler’s 2025 vampire flick Sinners, and contributed the track “Dangerous.” Sinners entered the history books earlier this year with 16 Academy Award nominations, an all-time record, and went on to win four golden statuettes.

That’s just for starters. She welcomed her first child in April (a baby girl, Harper Haize), almost a year after she married Josh Allen, quarterback with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. Heck, it’s all so peachy at the moment, Allen’s Bills have started the regular session 3-0.

Steinfeld stopped by NBC‘s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her next project, the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Hexed, in which she voices the lead character Billie Doe.

“It’s such a dream come true,” she says of Hexed, due out this Thanksgiving. “You jump at the opportunity to be a part of a Disney animated original. I started this project when I was pregnant, and finished it after my baby was born. So it was really such an amazing sort of like transformative time in my life.”

Billie, she tells Fallon, is a “rebellious, unconventional teen” who discovers a special secret about herself. She’s a witch with magical powers. Don’t keep that a secret.

It’s a “magical, magical coming of age story and a story of self-discovery and learning to use that magic within you,” Steinfeld continues, “and that power within you, for good.”

During her chat with Fallon, Steinfeld discussed the relentless night shoots for Sinners, sang the praises of its director Coogler, and explained how she missed the Academy Award — but watched from home with a “bowl of popcorn and big belly.”

Whether the rumors are true and that Steinfeld will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the forthcoming release Avengers: Doomsday, Steinfeld was giving nothing away. “Time will tell,” she says. Steinfeld previously appeared in Marvel’s Hawkeye on Disney+ and as “Spider-Gwen” in her MCU films Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

As an actor, Steinfeld got her big break in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit, a film that earned her an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress, and as a recording artist has bagged five entries on the Billboard Hot 100 since debut single “Love Myself” reached No. 30 on the chart back in 2015. Her Haiz EP charted on the Billboard 200 that same year.

Steinfeld stayed on the Tonight Show couch for a round of the “Don’t Say the Same Thing Challenge,” a game in which she and Fallon pick a random category and name something in that category at the same time, but without blurting the same answer.
