Arokodare’s Fifth Goal Of The Season Not Enough As Ajax Lose To PSV

Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive start at Ajax by getting on the score sheet again, but it was not enough as his side lost 3-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven in Saturday’s Eredivisie clash.

Arokodare has now scored in four consecutive games and has netted in back-to-back league matches since joining Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The goal against PSV means Arokodare has taken his tally in all competitions to five goals.

PSV took the lead in the 5th minute through Ricardo Pepi, who headed in after Ruben van Bommel nodded on a deep cross from Ivan Perišić.

Arokodare made it 1-1 in the 23rd minute with a low right-footed effort from the center of the box that bounced into the far corner.

PSV regained the lead one minute in first half added time when Lutsharel Geertruida volleyed into the far corner.

Then in the 92nd minute Esmir Bajraktarević sealed the win for the visitors with a left-footed finish on a fast break, assisted by Sven Mijnans.

PSV move top of the league table on 13 points after five games played while Ajax occupy fifth place on seven points from four matches played.

Arokodare’s strong early form at Ajax has put him in a good position to push for a Super Eagles recall.

After a difficult spell at Wolves (where he scored only a handful of goals amid relegation), he has quickly rediscovered his scoring touch in the Netherlands.

In March 2025, the 25-year-old received his first call-up to the Super Eagles, made his debut on the 21st of the same month in a 2–0 away victory against Rwanda. On June 6, 2025, he scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in a 1–1 friendly draw with Russia.

His last appearance came in the November 2025 CAF play-off final loss to DR Congo that ended Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup hopes.

Competition for striking places remains high, but regular goals and strong performances at a high-profile club like Ajax give him a clear route back into Eric Chelle’s plans, especially ahead of 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
