Multiple Doctor Who legends confirmed for new box-set of Christmas adventures this festive season

A host of Doctor Who favourites are reuniting for Big Finish's four-story festive-themed audio box set, featuring three incarnations of The Doctor.

Doctor Who: Christmas – Out of the Dark and Other Stories, due for release in December, stars Peter Davison, Alex Kingston, Sylvester McCoy and Lisa Bowerman among its cast.

Davison returns as the Fifth Doctor, McCoy as the Seventh and Kingston as River Song, with Miles Taylor appearing as the Eleventh Doctor opposite Bowerman's Bernice Summerfield.

The collection contains four full-cast Christmas-themed adventures set across the Whoniverse.

In the title story, Out of the Dark by Jonathan S Powell, the Seventh Doctor and Ace (Sophie Aldred) are launched on a time-hopping quest through Christmas history while battling a Cyber-Soviet alliance in Moscow, 1991, with Nicholas Briggs voicing the Cybermen.

Powell traced the adventure back to his own childhood, commenting: "Silver Nemesis on VHS was my first encounter with the Cybermen, and some part of me has always been itching to give them a rematch with the Doctor and Ace.

"The more I write, the more chillingly plausible I find the Cybermen, but perhaps that's a sign of the times too?"

Elsewhere, John Dorney's Merry Christmas, Mr Chimbly reunites the Fifth Doctor with Tegan (Janet Fielding) and Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) against an incompetent Porcian invader, while Hannah Kennedy's From the Realms of Glory sends River Song up against angelic creatures in an abandoned Highland town.

Rounding out the set is James Goss-penned tale And Tiny Tim, Who Did Not Die, which pairs Bernice Summerfield with the Eleventh Doctor as she investigates a planet claiming to be Trenzalore, the fabled site of the Doctor's death. Benny's new intern, Tim, has a secret of his own.

Goss said of the teaming: "It was a delight to put Bernice Summerfield together with the Eleventh Doctor, pairing an expert on the Doctor's history with a Doctor who is aware of his looming death, and Lisa was blown away by Miles."

The box set follows October's release, Doctor Who: Halloween – Doctor, Doctor, Doctor and Other Stories, and the two titles can be ordered together in a seasonal multi-buy bundle.

Out of the Dark and Other Stories is now available to pre-order from Big Finish, priced from £24.99 as a download, with a collector's edition CD set limited to 1,500 copies.
