Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Practical Magic 2.Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman's 1998 movie Practical Magic has been beloved by generations for the last nearly three decades, so it was understandably thrilling for many when the sequel movie, Practical Magic 2, was finally announced. The new movie, which has only just landed in theaters, technically starts just after Practical Magic ends, although it then very quickly has a time jump ahead of about a decade, when Sally Owens' daughters, Kylie and Antonia, are both now grown. The story actually primarily focuses on Kylie, who is sadly facing the Owens women's curse.

Specifically, Kylie's boyfriend, Gideon, is struck by a car just after the couple shares their first declarations of love, and although he doesn't die immediately—as is typical for the curse—he is left in a coma that is clearly putting his life at risk. Kylie therefore goes on a quest to discover whether she can bring an end to the family curse, which takes her all the way to London. Unsurprisingly, the narrative takes myriad twists and turns, including a major romantic update for Sally Owens, some devastating deaths, and a shocking change to the family's lot in life.

With so many major moments in the film and the simple fact that fan-favorite stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back (and despite several reviews for Practical Magic 2 being less than glowing), it's no surprise that audiences are eager to see whether there could be a post-credits scene in the movie, offering even more time with the characters after nearly three full decades off. Ultimately, it seems, the creative minds behind the movie opted not to include one, but that was actually completely the right call.

Practical Magic 2 Not Having A Post-Credits Scene Is Good

Although some fans may be disappointed that there's no post-credit scene in the movie, this was actually a wise move. For one, in spite of the significant popularity of Practical Magic, it took 28 years to get a sequel movie. Typically, post-credits scenes are actually teasing something that is going to come next. Given the history of the franchise, it would have been a gamble to tease something because, at this stage, it isn't clear whether a sequel is coming and, if so, when it would be released. A post-credits scene therefore ran the risk of just frustrating fans.

What's more, this decision offered continuity in two key ways. First, Practical Magic did not have a post-credits scene, perhaps due in large part to the fact that they weren't nearly as popular or common at the time when that movie was released. Excluding one in Practical Magic 2 was therefore the better fit in terms of what has come before. In addition to that, though, a post-credits scene just wouldn't really have fit with the overall nature of the movie; it's a heartwarming story about family and sisterhood, not a major cinematic universe. It just doesn't need a cliffhanger.

Does Practical Magic 2 Still Set Up A Sequel & Will One Happen?

Even with the absence of a post-credits scene, it doesn't mean that a sequel movie can never happen or is even unlikely to happen. In fact, the ending of Practical Magic 2 sets up the possibility for Practical Magic 3. Perhaps most obviously, while Sally and Gillian are still the primary focus of Practical Magic 2, it's clear that part of the movie is meant to pass the torch to the next generation—Sally's daughters, Antonia and Kylie. It's easy to imagine that the franchise will continue with them at the forefront, presumably with Kidman and Bullock still involved.

Additionally, while Practical Magic 2 offered quite a bit of closure for Sally, Gillian's story still feels unfinished; she hasn't gotten her happily-ever-after yet, whatever that ends up looking like. Rounding the movies out with a third and making it a beautiful trilogy about these sisters and how their stories end would be perfect, so hopefully, Practical Magic 2 won't be our final encounter with the Owens sisters on the big screen (it's just not clear when that return might be yet).
