Traditional-market vendors in RI urged to embrace digitalization
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri urged traditional-market vendors to embrace digitalization to expand customer reach and tap online sales channels.
She made the remarks at the Indonesia Digital Economy and Finance Festival & Indonesia Fintech Summit and Expo 2026 in Jakarta on Friday.
Dyah said adopting technology in traditional markets would modernize trading practices while giving vendors broader access to consumers.
In 2025, the Trade Ministry and other agencies provided digital support to about 6,870 traditional markets and more than 300,000 vendors, she said.
The support included online payment systems and training to help sellers use digital sales channels and expand their businesses.
Digitalization could also generate a multiplier effect by enabling businesses to use technology not only for transactions but also to broaden their commercial reach.
“We must adapt to the ongoing changes, which will hopefully generate the multiplier effect we need,” Dyah said.
The Trade Ministry is also promoting technology adoption to help local businesses enter international markets by showcasing Indonesian products through the InaExport online platform.
The effort is supported by trade representatives and Indonesia Trade Promotion Centers in 33 countries, which help promote Indonesian products in global markets.
Dyah stressed, however, that expanding market access through technology requires business owners to be willing to adapt to changing conditions.
As technology evolves rapidly, she said, the public and entrepreneurs must continually upgrade their skills to benefit from the transformation.
Technology adoption can help micro, small and medium enterprises reach untapped markets, strengthen competitiveness and expand operations beyond simply upgrading payment systems, she added.
