The documentary You Can See Everything is set to make history at the box office this weekend. The film will be released in theaters this weekend on a limited number of screens. Despite having fewer than 1,000 shows, the film is eyeing a strong weekend at the North American box office. Co-directed by Primetime filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, the film premiered at a festival last month. It is expected to shine at the box office, marking another success for A24.

A24 has had a great year so far, with films like The Drama, Backrooms, and Primetime making a mark at the box office. Now, the studio’s upcoming documentary is set to continue its winning streak. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the movie was reportedly shot in secret and premiered as a surprise screening at the 53rd Telluride Film Festival last month.

You Can See Everything Thursday Previews

The documentary has certainly caught the audience’s attention at the domestic box office. Crushing all expectations, the film earned $1.8 million in Thursday previews alone. This is a historic achievement for a documentary that runs for nearly three hours. Such a long runtime is quite rare for films released in theaters in the US. The film’s buzz also stems from the attention it generated at its festival premiere last month, further piquing public curiosity.

Opening Projection

The film is facing competition from several new releases, including Street Fighter, Whalefall, and Sense and Sensibility. Despite the competition and its three-hour runtime, the documentary is expected to earn between $7 million and $8 million during its opening weekend in North America. Strong word of mouth could also push its debut collection beyond $10 million. Its opening-weekend projection is higher than that of the Jane Austen adaptation, which is releasing across 2,436 locations in the domestic market.

You Can See Everything is also expected to surpass Melania’s opening weekend. If it achieves that, the A24 film will record the biggest opening weekend for a documentary in over a decade. Melania debuted with $7 million across 1,700 theaters, marking the strongest opening for a documentary in a decade.

More About The Movie

The documentary follows Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the now-defunct health technology company Theranos, and her partner, Billy Evans. They invited a film crew to document the beginning of their journey in the weeks before Holmes began serving a US federal prison sentence for defrauding investors.

You Can See Everything will hit theaters on October 16.
