According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Detroit and Thompson have come to an agreement on a "rookie-scale contract extension" that is a five-year deal, worth $155 million.
"Just in: Detroit Pistons All-Defensive forward Ausar Thompson has reached agreement on a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"Thompson lands the fully guaranteed extension after finishing third place in the Defensive Player of the Year award race last season, leading the NBA in steals per game and posting the third-most combined steals and blocks at 215," Charania continued. "He is one of three players with at least 300 steals and 150 blocks since entering the NBA as the No. 5 pick in the 2023 draft."

This deal comes two weeks after Thompson's twin brother, Amen of the Houston Rockets, got a five-year, $208 million deal, as the two are the "first pair of brothers in NBA history to each receive a $100 million deal," via Charania. The contract extension for the Pistons standout was a long-time coming, as ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel reported in early August that Thompson would be getting a "five-year extension."

Last season, Thompson averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, two steals, and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the field, as the fifth overall pick from the 2023 NBA Draft has been part of the foundation for Detroit.
