The University of Ghana says it is pursuing measures to expand on-campus accommodation as it welcomes fresh students for the 2026/27 academic year.

The announcement comes as the university holds its matriculation ceremony across five sessions for its four colleges and the Accra City Campus.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Provost of the College of Humanities, Professor Joseph Awetori Yaro, said the university recognises the growing demand for on-campus accommodation and is taking steps to address the challenge.

He said management was pursuing sustainable measures to increase the number of available bed spaces and improve the student residential experience.

“The university recognises the growing demand for on-campus accommodation,” Professor Yaro said.

He added that management was “actively pursuing sustainable measures to increase accommodation capacity and improve the student residential experience.”

The accommodation challenge remains a concern for students seeking residential facilities on campus, as demand continues to put pressure on available spaces.

Meanwhile, the new student representative, Benedicta Lartey, an LLB student, highlighted some of the difficulties freshmen encountered during the registration process.

She said some students experienced delays and had to wait for long periods while moving between offices to obtain the information they needed.

“For some of us, registration involved waiting long hours, moving from one office to another, and struggling to obtain the information needed,” she said.

Ms Lartey appealed to university staff to provide timely information and exercise patience when assisting new students as they settle into university life.

The university has also urged freshmen to observe its rules, maintain discipline and take responsibility for their conduct as they begin their academic journey.
