The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has suspended Kun Khalifat FC media officer, Saviola Godwin Otu, for five matches, and fined him ₦200 million over an unprofessional social media publication, and his failure to honour an invitation from the league’s investigation panel.

The sanction relates to a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, depicting a post-match incident involving an injured coach, alongside a statement deemed inappropriate by the league.

According to the NPFL, the publication, particularly the accompanying statement, and circulation of graphic content, fell short of the professionalism and responsibility expected of a club media officer.

The league further noted that the post portrayed the competition in a negative light, and had the potential to undermine public confidence in the league, as well as create tension among clubs and their supporters.

The NPFL reiterated that media officers with legitimate complaints concerning match-related incidents must channel them through the league’s established reporting mechanisms to ensure proper investigation and appropriate action.
