Alamin.

“Any type of change in the normal or the usual behavior of the child is something that should make you think to look at the child more,” ani Guiranod.

It's just a signal for us adults around the child to actually pay a closer attention to the child,” ani Guiranod.

“One thing I've learned also from working with children, that the most important part of communication is listening. And it's not just the active work of listening, it's also giving them that space to actually talk. Kailangan they feel safe. Because sometimes, ang kulang lang is feeling nila ‘pag nagsabi sila, mapapagalitan sila. Feeling nila ‘pag nagsabi sila, ma-judge sila. So, part of listening is actually providing that safe space for conversation,” paliwanag ng doktora.

“What we do know is exposure to early violence, violence in the family, that affects the child's development, it affects the child's thinking from a very early stage. Normal na sakitan o sigawan. Violence in the family, adverse events in general have effects on the way the brain develops,” aniya.

Ipinunto ng Child Protection Specialist na “violence involving children is not always violence caused by children.”

“They might be coerced by nefarious actors or bad people online to do these things. And their brains aren't... they can't cope to these kinds of peer pressure in the same way that adults do,” pahayag niya.

“We teach lessons, but do we teach life skills? Do we teach mindfulness?” sabi niya.

“Kasi children don't just learn from what we tell them. Children also learn from what we reward and what we praise. That's actually positive reinforcement,” paalala niya.

Kaya kapag ginagawa umano ng ibang tao, pakiramdam nilang kailangan din nila itong gawin dahil ayaw nilang maiba ma-“ostracize” o “fear of missing out.”

“Not just the child. Hindi mo lang tuturuan ‘yung child to cope. But you also learn about the systems around the child,” paliwanag niya.

“First, you empower the child. You teach them how to protect themselves. You teach them life skills, mindfulness, self-regulation, emotional regulation, which are actually skills that we should actually learn either way,” paglalahad ni Guiranod.

“Second is, you empower the adults around the child. You teach them how to respond when a child is in danger or you respond how to respond to a child who is in emotional need,” dagdag niya.

“And then third is you allow for communication. So, kapag itong batang to, kailangan kailangan ng psychologist. You connect the child with the psychologist,” sabi ni Guiranod.

“Because hindi lang enough ‘yung you impose a regulation, you have to continuously enforce the regulation,” ayon kay Guiranod.
