Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon has encouraged Indonesians to visit museums to deepen their appreciation of the country's culture and civilization.

"Preserving museums means ensuring that knowledge is not lost over time, so future generations inherit not only relics of the past but also an understanding of their significance and the history behind them," Fadli said in a press statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He made the remarks ahead of Indonesian Museum Day, observed annually on October 12. Fadli said a nation could lose touch with its past if it failed to preserve the collective memory of how it was formed.

Museums help safeguard this collective memory through their collections, which bear witness to human history, cultural encounters, and the civilizations that have shaped Indonesia to this day.

Indonesian Museum Day highlights the collective role of museums and museum professionals across the country. The observance also aims to encourage greater public appreciation of museums and strengthen their contribution to preserving Indonesia's cultural heritage.

Earlier, Fadli accompanied President Prabowo Subianto on a visit to the National Museum of Indonesia in Jakarta to mark Indonesian Museum Day.

During the visit, Prabowo toured several exhibition galleries and interacted with students participating in educational activities at the museum.

The visit demonstrated the government's support for making museums welcoming, engaging, and interactive spaces where young people can learn about history and culture.

It also underscored the importance of introducing children to patriotism and fostering appreciation for the nation's cultural heritage from an early age.
