Forty-seven university students have participated in the first edition of Unmute Yo’Self, a free public speaking and confidence-building event aimed at helping young people communicate their ideas more effectively.

The event was held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Accra AI Community Center in Ridge, Accra.

Organised by the Sincerely Accra Podcast in collaboration with The Gold Coast Report (GCR), the programme was sponsored by Malta Guinness and Ashesi University. Participants included students from first year through to their final year.

The initiative was designed to address the challenges young people face in expressing themselves confidently in classrooms, job interviews and professional settings.

Organisers said the programme provides a supportive space for students to practise communication skills and develop the confidence to share their ideas.

Co-creators of the Sincerely Accra Podcast, Joseph Nti and Kwame Asante Ofori, led sessions on public speaking and the responsible use of social media.

Mr Nti, the podcast’s host, and Mr Ofori, its producer, guided participants on managing nervousness and structuring presentations around a clear opening, central message, supporting example, and conclusion.

Guest speaker Nadia Daniel-Wilson addressed the topic “Using AI Without Surrendering Your Creativity,” encouraging students to use artificial intelligence tools to support their work without losing their individual voice and judgement.

A panel of creative entrepreneurs also shared their experiences of building careers in the creative industry and turning their skills into income.

The panel featured Shaunn Armah, a founder, creator and storyteller; Kabiru Seidu, co-founder and Director of Design and Strategy at The Big Fat African Development; and Seli Dzogbenuku, a writer, creative entrepreneur and podcast host.

The discussions focused on their journeys into content creation, the opportunities available in the creative sector and the practical steps involved
