Youth Pledge as reminder that unity is nation's main strength: Palace

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day was a moment to remind that unity is the main strength of the Indonesian nation.

He said this while conveying greetings for Youth Pledge Day on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto and the government to all Indonesian youth and the public, in a statement received here on Wednesday.

“On behalf of the President and the government, we wish everyone a happy Youth Pledge Day. This moment reminds us that unity is the main strength of the Indonesian nation,” he said.

According to Hadi, the Youth Pledge of October 28, 1928, proved that differences in ethnicity, religion, and region are not a barrier to unity.

The young people of that time were able to put the nation’s interest above personal or group interests.

“The spirit of one homeland, one nation, and one language must continue to be kept. Today’s young generation has a responsibility to continue that struggle through works, innovation, and real contributions to society,” the minister said.

Hadi said the government is committed to giving young people wider space to learn, develop their abilities, and take part in national development.

He expressed hope that Indonesian youth can have strong, creative, disciplined, resilient character and not give up easily when facing challenges.

“The spirit of the Youth Pledge must keep being brought to life. Let us maintain unity, strengthen mutual cooperation, and together give our best service to society, the nation, and the state,” Hadi said.

Youth Pledge Day is commemorated every October 28 to remember the Second Youth Congress held on October 27-28, 1928.

At the congress, young people from various regions pledged the Youth Pledge, affirming one homeland, one nation, and one language, namely Indonesia.
