Politician and women’s rights advocate, Mary Idele, has pledged to spearhead an effective grassroots mobilisation of Nigerian women for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, following her appointment as Secretary of the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council.

Idele, in a statement issued on Monday while reacting to the appointment, thanked Tinubu for the confidence reposed in her, describing the assignment as both a responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to the President’s re-election effort.

She pledged to bring her experience in grassroots mobilisation, women empowerment and organisational coordination to bear on the new responsibility, with emphasis on building a broad-based network capable of connecting with women across the country.

According to her, the task ahead requires more than political structures at the national level, insisting that sustained engagement with women at the community and grassroots levels would be critical to the success of the campaign.

“I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for the confidence and trust reposed in me through this appointment. I accept the responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty,” Idele said.

She pledged to work with women leaders, party officials and other stakeholders to strengthen coordination and participation, while ensuring that women are adequately integrated into the campaign’s mobilisation strategy.

“I am committed to working with our women across the country to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, deepen engagement and ensure that the women’s wing of the campaign council delivers effectively on its mandate,” she said.

Idele said the directorate would focus on building a strong mobilisation machinery capable of taking the campaign message to women in communities and local government areas across the federation.

She added that the campaign would require a collective effort, strategic planning and sustained interaction with women, who she described as an important constituency in Nigeria’s electoral politics.

“Our goal is to mobilise Nigerian women for victory and to support the progressive and Renewed Hope agenda. We will work collectively, strategically and tirelessly to ensure a landslide victory for Mr President in 2027,” she pledged.

Her appointment comes against the backdrop of growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general election, with the ruling APC stepping up efforts to consolidate its structures and broaden support for Tinubu’s re-election.

Women mobilisation is expected to occupy a prominent place in the campaign strategy, given the size and influence of women within Nigeria’s electorate and their role in community-level political organisation.
