Translate

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has sent a congratulatory message to Nigeria’s Flamingos following their qualification to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The NSC congratulated the coach Akeem Busari-led side in a statement on their X handle.

Goals from Oluebube Umejiaku and Mary Dunstan helped the Flamingos secured passage to the last eight.

“Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco following a 2-1 victory over Mexico in their Round of 16 encounter.

“Oluebube Umejiaku opened the scoring in the 40th minute before Mary Akpan Dunstan doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 71st minute. Mexico pulled one back through Emily Delgado deep into stoppage time, but the Flamingos held on to seal a hard-fought victory.

“The result sets up a quarter-final clash against Venezuela as the Nigerian youngsters continue their pursuit of a place in the semi-finals.

“The National Sports Commission congratulates the Flamingos on this important achievement and urges the team to maintain their focus and determination as they continue to fly Nigeria’s flag high on the global stage.”
