PN may use PAS logo in Melaka polls if suspension remains

Perikatan Nasional component parties could opt to contest under the PAS banner in the upcoming Melaka polls if the coalition remains suspended by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), says Takiyuddin Hassan.

Takiyuddin, secretary-general of both PN and PAS, said his party had no qualms with other parties using its logo, although Bersatu specifically has been asked to contest under its own logo.

Nonetheless, he said which logo the coalition uses in the Melaka polls is not that important, Harian Metro reported.

“It’s not a must for each component to contest under its own logo. They can all use the same logo to show a united front.

“So there would be nothing wrong with one of the PN party’s logos being used by all components, whether PAS’s or another’s.

“These are among our options if PN remains suspended (when the Melaka election nominations are held),” he said.

The Election Commission will meet on Oct 7 to set the key dates for the Melaka polls, following the dissolution of the state assembly on Wednesday.

On the same day the Melaka legislature was dissolved, the RoS suspended PN over a complaint filed by Bersatu. The coalition has been given 30 days to explain itself over the complaint.

PAS, which chairs PN through its vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, is the most dominant component in the coalition with 43 parliamentary seats and 146 state seats to its name.
