Weather: Cold, storms and strong winds to hit two provinces

Here is what the weather has in store for KZN, Free State and North West on Friday 18 September 2026.

An Orange Level 6 warning covers disruptive rain in southern KwaZulu-Natal, while severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of Free State and KZN.

KWAZULU-NATAL

Cloudy and cold to cool conditions will persist, with very cold weather in the south-west.

Widespread showers and thundershowers will occur, but scattered showers and thundershowers will affect the extreme north-eastern parts.

Along the coast, moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly winds will strengthen at times north of Mtunzini.

The UVB sunburn index will be moderate.

DURBAN

Durban is going to be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers

The wind will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.

Temperatures will range from 14°C to 18°C.

FREE STATE

Cloudy, windy and cold to cool with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein is going to be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers.

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 11°C to a maximum of 15°C.

NORTH WEST

North West province should be partly cloudy in the north-east, otherwise cloudy, windy and warm with isolated
to scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the extreme south-west

MAHIKENG

Mahikeng is going to be cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers

Temperatures will range from a minimum of 15°C. to a maximum of 27°C.
