Apple TV's New Thriller Series Adaptation Debuts To Solid Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score

Apple TV's newest thriller is being met with solid approval.

In some ways, Apple TV could be on its best hot streak yet. At the recent Primetime Emmys, the streamer won 28 awards out of a record 89 nominations. That's powered by the success of this year's breakout horror comedy Widow's Bay, as well as the lingering success of the sci-fi drama Pluribus.

But its emerging dominance as a streaming platform is likewise helped by the fact that it offers new shows on a fairly regular basis. One of those new releases, the thriller adaptation Last Seen, debuted to a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and praise in ScreenRant's review by Nick Brythow. It has since slid down to an 86%, and it's finding a similar reception among audiences.

Last Seen, based on The Dispatcher by Ryan David Jahn, has debuted to a 73% approval rating among audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. That score is based on fewer than 50 user ratings, so it is likely to shift as more assessments are added. Also, as of this writing, only three episodes have premiered. Three remain, with likely twists and turns that may sway perception.

Last Seen stars Patrick Brammall, seen recently in The Devil Wears Prada 2 opposite Anne Hathaway, in the lead role of police detective Ian Ridley. His life crumbled to pieces a little over a decade ago when his young daughter, Maggie, disappeared without a trace. Bradley has since worked as a police dispatcher, but he still refuses to accept the possibility that she might actually be gone forever.

That refusal to accept seems like it could be vindicated, though, when Bradley gets a distress call from a teenage girl. Over the course of its six episodes, Last Seen examines Bradley's certainty that the call is coming from Maggie and how he will do whatever it takes to try and find her, regardless of the cost.

Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Zahra Newman, Jessica Wren, Tobias Muhafidin, and Chloe Jean Lourdes also star in the Apple TV Original, which is adapted by writer and executive producer Kris Mrksa. The early reviews from viewers so far seem to be split. Some share heavy praise for the premiere episode, which they find thrilling and promising.

Others argue that Last Seen quickly stalls after an engaging start, with obvious developments that are easy enough to predict. But on the whole, it may be worth a sample for mystery fans.
