The Red Dead Redemption franchise has taken an understandable back seat with all the hubbub around the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, but the fact remains that despite sharing a developer, they are wholly different offerings. As such, there's a large portion of the gaming community out there who are much more interested in being cowboys and cowgirls than anything else.
The single-player remains torturously free of any DLC, and Rockstar has made it abundantly clear that there isn't any on the way, so our dreams of an Undead Nightmare will likely remain just that. Happily, the multiplayer continues to be diligently updated by the developer, and there's a lot going on right now that's worth jumping into if you're looking to have a good time this month.
As first reported by CBR, Halloween-themed events are taking place from now until November 4 in Red Dead Online, with challenges, increased activity rewards, and even freebies all rolled under one banner. In sharing the news with fans, Rockstar posted the following description:
"Haunting season has reached the frontier, treating Red Dead Online players to hefty bonuses for the hair-raising adventures in Strange Tales of the West," the official background for the month's events reads on the Rockstar website. "Get 4X RDO$, Gold, and XP all month long for investigating these weird and unexplained phenomena that include shambling undead, ornery swamp folk, and reports of artificial life. And that's merely the beginning…"
There are weekly events running as well, each of which comes with its own associated reward. The first week has now passed, but there are still plenty of reasons to get involved moving forward:
- October 13–19: Win in the Featured Series to receive the North Clingman Treasure Map
- October 20–26: Complete any Blood Money Contract to receive a Reward for a Free Weapon
- October 27–November 2: Play All Hallows' Call to Arms to receive the orange Benbow Jacket
The fun doesn't stop there though, as there are also increased rewards for some of the usual activities on offer in the game. Many of those are centered on players in the Naturalist role, with the full list as follows:
- 3X RDO$, Role XP and XP on Naturalist Sample Sales
- 3X RDO$, Gold and XP on All Hallows' Call to Arms
- 3X RDO$ and XP on Featured Series
- 4X RDO$, Gold and XP on Strange Tales of the West Telegram Missions
As mentioned previously, the event goes away for another year on November 4, taking all of the associated rewards with it. It will be interesting to see where Red Dead Redemption goes next, given that it was only intended to ever be two parts. Let's just hope it doesn't go away forever, or we will have lost one of the best franchises in gaming.
