Vice President Sara Duterte’s declared net worth ever since she entered public office soared from P7.250 million in 2007 to P98.656 million in 2025, based on her Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs).

Office of the Ombudsman Records Division officer-in-charge Atty. Karen Batu, a witness presented by the House prosecution panel, confirmed this during her direct examination on the 25th day of the impeachment trial.

“2007, madam witness, we started at P7 million, based on your testimony—P7,250,497. And in all the years of the Vice President, umakyat na ngayon sa P98 million ang kanyang net worth habang siya ay nago-gobyerno. Tama po ba based sa testimony ninyo?” private prosecutor James Bryan Alih asked Batu.

(In 2007, madam witness, we started at P7 million—based on your testimony, P7,250,497. And over the years of the Vice President’s tenure, her net worth has now risen to P98 million while she’s in government service. Is that correct, based on your testimony?)

The witness answered in the affirmative.

“Based po doon sa mga binasa kong SALN, ‘yun po ang halagang naka-declare sa kanyang mga sinubmit na SALN sa Office of the Ombudsman,” Batu said.

(Based on the SALNs I read, that is the amount declared in the SALNs she submitted to the Office of the Ombudsman.)

Alih specifically flagged the big increase in Duterte’s declared net worth from 2007 to 2008.

“Tama po, madam witness ‘no, after one year lang sa public office, sobra doble na ‘yung tinaas ng kanyang net worth, based on the records only?” Alih asked.

Defense counsel Justin Gular objected to the line of questioning, moving to strike it off the record.

“Again, Your Honor, we move to strike those statements. Objection to those statements,” Gular said.

Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis Escudero approved to strike Alih’s specific statement off the record.

Before joining politics, Duterte briefly served as a court attorney at the Supreme Court in 2006. She was elected vice mayor of Davao City from 2007 to 2010 and became the youngest and first lady mayor of the city from 2010 to 2013.

In 2016, she was elected again as Davao City mayor and served for two consecutive terms until she decided to run for vice president in 2022. —AOL, GMA News
