Egypt’s Media Council Issues Rules on Hossam Hassan’s Family Life

Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) announced on Monday, 14 September, that it has taken a series of actions concerning media coverage related to the private life of Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan.

The SCMR stated that key decisions include the summoning of the legal representatives of television channels Al-Nahar, Al-Shams, and Modern MTA TV for formal hearings.

The purpose is to examine the circumstances of the reported coverage and to assess whether it included details of private, personal, and family life in a way that violates SCMR standards.

The SCMR also ordered that all media outlets and platforms subject to Law No. 180 of 2018, including newspapers, online news sites, and social media, must indefinitely prevent the appearance of Dan Adam, Hassan’s wife, on any broadcast or digital platform.

The council further required that no content related to the matter be published or made available.

In addition, the SCMR decided to address the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), describing it as the competent authority within the sports system.

The council asked it to take whatever actions it deems appropriate regarding Hossam Hassan and the broader fallout from the recent dispute.

The council’s actions follow reports that Hassan’s wife previously appeared on multiple Egyptian satellite channels, where she discussed marital disputes as an incident involving her husband’s first wife and children reportedly escalated at a resort on the North Coast.

The confrontation led to mutual legal complaints and reportedly prompted Dan Adam to announce that she was considering separation from Hassan.
