Umno ready to discuss Pas' use of BN logo in Melaka polls

KOTA TINGGI: Umno is prepared to discuss Pas' intention to use the Barisan Nasional logo in the upcoming Melaka election.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the party welcomed the intention, but any such proposal would have to be discussed through official channels.

"If that is what they want, we are prepared to discuss it. But that does not mean we have met. Since he said it to the media, I am responding through the media as well.

"If any party is prepared to contest using the BN logo, we very much welcome it. But this must be based on the fundamental decision," he said at a press conference after attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kota Tinggi Muslim Orphanage here today.

Khaled, who is also the Kota Tinggi member of Parliament, was commenting on a statement by Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who indicated that the party was prepared to use the BN logo if it could not use the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo.

Asked whether other PN component parties, such as Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan), would also want to use the BN logo, Khaled jokingly said the openness did not extend to every party.

"Those who want to come to our house, they are people we like. Not everyone," he said.

Meanwhile, Khaled declined to comment further on the allocation of seats for the Melaka election, saying he was not directly involved in the matter.
