Obi mourns Olu Jacobs, says actor represented Nigerian excellence

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has mourned the death of veteran Nigerian actor, Olu Jacobs, describing him as an embodiment of the excellence of the Nigerian spirit.

Obi stated this in a tribute posted on his X handle on Thursday, following the announcement of the actor’s death by his family on Wednesday.

He described Jacobs’ contribution to Nigeria’s film and creative industry as remarkable, noting that the actor’s career spanned several decades across Britain and Nigeria.

Obi said Jacobs’ death was a reminder that life was temporary and that people must make meaningful contributions to society through their talents and responsibilities.

He wrote, “Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria.”

The former Anambra State governor said Jacobs lived a life that demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.

“His passing is once again a reminder to all of us that our time here is limited. Whatever responsibility we are entrusted with, and whatever area we are called to contribute to society, we must give it our very best and ensure that society benefits from our genius, talent and competence,” Obi stated.

He expressed his condolences to the late actor’s family, friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian creative community.

“As we remember his life, times and passion, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Nigerian creative community,” he added.

Obi prayed that God would grant Jacobs’ loved ones and the country the strength to bear the loss.

“May the good Lord grant our father, Olu Jacobs, and all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen,” he said.
