Elderly woman robbed of cash, jewelry in Forbes Park home

MANILA, Philippines—A 76-year-old woman was robbed of around P90,000 worth of cash and jewelry at her residence in Forbes Park, Makati, with police identifying a 25-year-old pedicab driver as the suspect.

The incident was reported on Sept. 24, with the suspect allegedly stealing around P50,000 in cash and P40,000 worth of jewelry from the victim.

“So our police in Makati are closely coordinating to identify weaknesses in the subdivision’s physical security and patrol setup. How the suspect was able to get in—that’s what we will look into,” Philippine National Police spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co. said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

Police said closed-circuit television footage helped identify the suspect, who was reportedly linked to a series of “akyat-bahay” (house burglary) cases in other villages in the city.

Co clarified that the PNP does not provide exclusive security services to private subdivisions such as Forbes Park.

“We do not normally patrol unless we are called to do so to respond, so in this case we will have to review security protocols as well as procedures of the agency providing the said services to the village,” he added.

Co said police regularly coordinate with private security personnel in subdivisions but noted that police do not routinely patrol privately managed villages, which hire their own security firms to protect residents and their properties. /mcm
