EXCLUSIVE: Atlantic Records and Teddy Park’s Korean outfit The Black Label have come on to produce the soundtrack for the upcoming K-pop thriller Perfect Girl.

Atlantic and The Black Label are also joining Badlands, Thunder Road, and Renegade as producers on the project, with Atlantic President Kevin Weaver serving as an executive producer.

Described by producers are “Scream meets Black Swan,” Perfect Girl charts the story of a new female supergroup preparing for their debut. The synopsis reads: “With only four spots available and the final cut a week away, the competition is off the charts. When a talented and mysterious new candidate is introduced at the last minute, things start to get strange: girls are being hunted and attacked one by one, but who is responsible for the carnage and who will make the final cut?”

A 2023 Blacklist script written by Lynn Q. Yu, the English-language film stars Arden Cho and May Hong, Adeline Rudolph, and Jeon Somi. The project is directed by Hong Won-ki. Hong and videographer Kim Jun-hong are the creatives behind Zanybros, the leading music video production company in South Korea.

Above is a first look at some of the cast: Kim Si-yoon from Billie, Park Chaerin from Cherry Bullet, Ally Nitibhon, Adeline Rudolph, Jeon Somi, Nancy McDonie from Momoland, Samantha Cochran, and Emily Mei.

Currently in post-production, Perfect Girl will feature an original soundtrack with exclusive new music from Atlantic Records and The Black Label including new music from Jeon Somi. The soundtrack will also feature multiple original songs performed by the cast.

Upgrade, which has already secured distribution deals across the majority of international markets, is handling international dealmaking and will continue sales at the upcoming American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance representing domestic rights.

The Black Label reps a host of Asian music stars, including one of the film’s singers-turned-actor Jeon Somi, as well as Blackpink singer Rosé. Founder Teddy Park recently won an Oscar and Grammy for producing the soundtrack for K Pop Demon Hunters and hit song Golden. Atlantic is behind film soundtracks including Barbie The Album, The Greatest Showman and Hamilton. Kevin Weaver is currently producing and developing an animated feature adaptation of Epic: The Musical with Jerry Bruckheimer, among other projects.

“When I first learned about Perfect Girl, I was immediately drawn to its uniquely compelling premise, the convergence of two global cultural phenomena—K-pop and the thriller genre—and the way music and storytelling are so intrinsically connected,” said Weaver. “We rarely become involved in projects at this stage in the process, but the story, the artists at its center, the filmmakers, and the creative vision of this film were so incredibly fresh and exciting that this became an opportunity we simply had to be part of. We’re thrilled to join this exceptional team of partners in bringing Perfect Girl to life.”
