Cris Carter Makes A Bold Claim About The Minnesota Vikings Ahead Of Detroit Lions Showdown

A 6-0 record usually ends the arguments. For the Minnesota Vikings, it started a new one. Kyler Murray and the offense have sputtered at times, so critics keep hunting for cracks in a team that has not lost. Former Vikings receiver Cris Carter heard enough of that noise. On the Inside Football Show, he answered with a bold claim about Brian Flores' defense and a joke about acne. Now the Detroit Lions arrive on Sunday in Week 8, the trade deadline sits on November 10, and Minnesota still has to prove Carter right on the field.
Minnesota Vikings Defense Under Brian Flores Sets The Tone
Carter keeps his case simple. "If you are a legendary defense, then you got Super Bowl aspirations," he said. He also brushed off the offensive worries with a line that sums up his mood: "So what? She's got a little bump on her forehead. It's just a little acne. It'll go away in a couple of days."
The math shows why he sounds so relaxed. Through six games, Minnesota allowed 1,517 yards, about 253 per game, while its offense gained roughly 282. That edge is thin, but the 11 turnovers the defense created have done the rest of the work.

Flores brings pressure on 47.1 percent of plays, and he went even further against the Indianapolis Colts. His unit blitzed on 85.2 percent of dropbacks in a 16-10 win, the highest single-game rate since 2013. Dallas Turner leads the team with 6.0 sacks and 17 quarterback hits. Linebacker Blake Cashman earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and Harrison Smith sealed the Colts game with a fourth-quarter interception of Daniel Jones.
Jared Goff And Detroit Lions Test The Vikings Next
Here is the catch. Jared Goff has thrown 14 touchdowns this season and zero interceptions. Minnesota's takeaways may not come so easily against him, which means the sacks must. Goff has gone down 12 times, and with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams running free when he gets time, one missed blitz could cost Flores a touchdown.
The trade market adds another layer. Some fans floated Kirk Cousins as an upgrade for general manager Nolan Teasley, but Carter wasted no words. "Kirk Cousins is not coming back to Minnesota. He's not coming back to Minnesota." He said he spent time with Teasley and that a reunion would clash with the locker room the new GM wants to build.
A more realistic name is Jonathan Taylor. The Colts have already dealt DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson, and Minnesota is reportedly one of several teams interested in the running back. Insider Jordan Schultz is not convinced it happens.
If the Vikings do add a playmaker, it would help an offense that rarely finishes drives with authority. Yet the bigger question may be simpler. Can a defense built on gambles stay this disruptive when the quarterback across from it rarely makes a mistake?
