Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson’s latest film, Verity, has retained its number 1 position at the domestic box office in its opening week. Meanwhile, on its first Tuesday, the film saw a sharp rise in collections in comparison to its first Monday. As a result, the film is on track to recoup its production costs from the domestic box office alone. Moreover, despite clashing with Tom Cruise’s Digger, Anne Hathaway’s starrer is a force at the box office.

How Much Did Verity Earn At The North American Box Office In 5 Days?

It is the 4th Colleen Hoover adaptation, and it features a stunning cast, including Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. The film had much pre-release buzz, which helped it register a strong debut. On its first discounted Tuesday, the R-rated erotic thriller earned a strong $3.6 million. This was a 48% growth from its Monday collection of $2.4 million.

Verity has grossed a total of 38 million at the domestic box office in just 5 days. The film’s Tuesday collection is higher than that of Wuthering Heights (3.5 million), The Lost City (3.3 million), and Sandra Bullock’s recent release, Practical Magic 2 (2.9 million).

Verity To Recover Production Cost In Opening Week

According to reports, Verity was made on a $40 million budget, making it a modestly budgeted film. The makers can rejoice, as the film is set to recoup its production cost in its opening week from domestic collections alone. Overseas, the film has performed well, collecting $68.4 million worldwide. The film is very much on track to achieve the $100 million milestone worldwide.

For the unversed, based on the industry’s 2.5x multiplier rule, the break-even target is estimated at $100 million. Therefore, the movie will not only surpass $100 million in its second weekend but also reach its break-even point. The Anne Hathaway starrer will thus become profitable within a month.

More About Verity

The movie follows renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) and Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who moves to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. There, Lowen discovers what appear to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, forcing her to confront disturbing confessions about Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), as she struggles to distinguish fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession. Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity was released on October 2.
