Germany, Indonesia strengthen ties in industry and energy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste highlighted industrial cooperation, particularly in technology and energy, as one of the significant achievements in bilateral relations between Germany and Indonesia.
“In my view, German industry has contributed through technology, whether in LRT signaling technology, solar energy, energy transition projects, or the development of the electricity grid in Sulawesi,” Beste said at a German Unity Day celebration here on Friday evening.
He said German industry had also contributed by providing technology for renewable energy projects and through cooperation under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
Beyond industry and energy, Beste highlighted Germany’s support for negotiations on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) as another important aspect of bilateral relations.
As the European Union’s largest economy, Germany supports the negotiation process led by Indonesia.
“So, our cooperation covers trade and energy. We are also ready to bring substantial high-tech investment to Indonesia,” he said.
In the health sector, Beste highlighted contributions from German companies such as Bayer, which partners with Indonesia in providing nutritional products for women and children to support balanced nutrition.
Bilateral cooperation also extends to security and humanitarian assistance, including the procurement of two A400M transport aircraft in collaboration with European partners.
Beste said the aircraft had helped deliver humanitarian aid to communities affected by floods in Sumatra and fires in Kalimantan.
“We are proud to be able to help. Large transport aircraft from Europe can make a tangible contribution to delivering humanitarian assistance to people in disaster-affected areas of Indonesia,” he said.
He also highlighted Indonesia-Germany cooperation in the procurement of the KRI Canopus research vessel, which was built through collaboration between Indonesian and German companies.
The vessel supports hydrographic surveys in Indonesian waters, which are considered important for the smooth flow of global trade.
Beste said the various areas of cooperation reflected the breadth of the Indonesia-Germany partnership, spanning industry, trade, energy, health, and security.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia sought to deepen cooperation with Germany across various strategic sectors, including industry, infrastructure, trade, investment, energy, digital transformation, health, and human resource development.
“Looking ahead, we see significant opportunities to deepen cooperation in industry, infrastructure, trade, investment, energy, digital transformation, health, life sciences, and human resource development,” Hartarto said.
He also extended his congratulations to the German government and people on German Unity Day, expressing hope that friendship and partnership between the two countries would continue to grow in the years ahead.
