Iconic Robin’s Return Chances Addressed By Star Ahead Of DC’s New Batman Movie

EXCLUSIVE: A DC alum is ready to join James Gunn's superhero franchise.
DC Studios' main franchise is just getting started, as the ongoing comic book film and TV continuity is still expanding, with various heroes and villains getting introduced through several upcoming DC Universe movies and shows. While Justice League members like Superman, Supergirl, and the Green Lanterns have come to life, audience members are still waiting to see how Gunn's property will tackle Batman.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender for Wildwood, Jacob Tremblay, who previously voiced Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, in the Harley Quinn animated series, was asked if he would be open to playing the Boy Wonder in The Brave and the Bold as part of the DCU franchise. The star is more than ready to make the jump into live-action, saying, "Dude, I would totally do that, and I think because I’m so creative and such a genius — no, I’m just kidding. [Laughs] It’d be a privilege to play that role, all the stunts that you’d get to do, that’d be insane, I’d totally do that."
It and It: Welcome to Derry's Andy Muschietti is set to direct The Brave and the Bold film for DC Studios, with Christina Hudson reportedly penning the script. The reboot was initially announced in January 2023 as part of the DCU slate by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran.
During the original announcement, the story was pitched to center on Bruce Wayne and the discovery that he has a biological son, Damian Wayne, who will end up as Robin. At the time of the initial line-up of projects, Gunn and Safran also stated that there could be appearances of other Bat-Family members, given that the Caped Crusader is already active and established in this continuity.
However, as development on the film has slowly been progressing, no one has been cast as the iconic Gotham City hero, or any of his supporting players. The Dark Knight had a cameo in the animated Creature Commandos series, and DCU is getting ready to explore one of his greatest foes in the upcoming Clayface horror feature, starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen.
Gunn has indicated that the DCU: Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters" project is potentially changing various story elements. On October 14, a user asked the Superman and Man of Tomorrow director on Threads if "plans for DCU Batman changed creatively in some way since the 2023 announcement of The Brave and the Bold," to which he said, "Yup."
In July 2025, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director said to IGN that Robin's DCU story in The Brave and the Bold may not be fully set, as things could look very different in the end. He shared how, "No, I think you have to wait to see the movie. Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn't take any of it – Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to... Listen, first of all, I can't tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman. I think you'd have a harder time finding actors who don't want to be Batman. He's the one character everyone wants to play. That's the truth."
Wildwood opens in theaters on October 23.
