The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on Friday it had overturned a four-year doping ban for Japanese race walker Koki Ikeda, who had won silver at the Tokyo Olympics.
Ikeda was banned in 2025 after abnormalities were found in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) that indicated blood manipulation.
He appealed to CAS, the world’s top sports court, which said a panel “found that the alternative physiological scenario brought by Mr. Ikeda was plausible”.
“The Panel were satisfied that the Athlete established several factors to explain the abnormalities, which include personal medical conditions,” CAS added in a statement.
Ikeda was second in the men’s 20km race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Japanese finished seventh in this event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
