Resident Evil Requiem DLC Character & Story Officially Confirmed

Resident Evil Requiem's upcoming story DLC has been the subject of much speculation since the game's launch, but for the most part, developer Capcom has kept quiet about what to expect from the expansion. In the absence of hard details, fans have been free to speculate about the endless possibilities, ranging from the return of Ada Wong to Grace's mother, Alyssa Ashcroft.

Now, however, we've officially gotten word from someone involved with its creation about what to expect. There's still a possibility that characters like Ada could appear, but the focus of the story might be on a totally different figure.

Resident Evil Game Project W Oswell Spencer Wesker

In an interview at Meadowlark Comic Con (available on the Distance NERDing Podcast & Comic Cons YouTube channel), writer Haris Orkin, who worked on the Resident Evil Requiem script, teased a major detail about the upcoming DLC for the game. Orkin, who claims to be "working on the DLC right now," suggests that franchise villain Oswell Spencer's story will continue in the expansion. After mentioning Resident Evil Requiem's focus on fleshing out Spencer's motivations, he notes that "in the DLC, you will understand it even further."

Right after dropping this note, Orkin notes that he "probably shouldn't say that," and there's a good chance that Capcom has reminded him of this since the interview dropped. Regardless, the cat seems to be out of the bag, so fans can presumably expect Spencer's story to play a role in the DLC.

Resident Evil Card Game Explores Spencer Mansion

This doesn't necessarily confirm or deny other major rumors surrounding Resident Evil Requiem's DLC, as the inclusion of further context for Spencer doesn't provide any clear answers as to who the protagonist might be. In the wake of the reveal, Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem reiterated that Spencer Mansion from the original Resident Evil is allegedly in the DLC, although it's not clear whether it will come in the form of a flashback or appear as rubble following its previous destruction.

Basically, the possibilities for the DLC are still more or less endless, but we now have more of an idea about what the story will touch on. Resident Evil Requiem's introduction of Elpis and presentation of Spencer as a remorseful figure was a major step for the series — one that some fans still view as asynchronous — and this might be an opportunity to provide additional context for the new take.

Resident Evil Requiem's story is ultimately all over the place, and some parts of it are unlikely to ever be reframed in a way where they fully make sense. The expansion will be a major opportunity to prove that Capcom can still polish the rough edges of a narrative, though, so hopefully we get something a little more rock-solid this time around.
