An exhibition exploring the complex reality of the American Dream through the eyes of an immigrant artist will open this Thursday in Tel Aviv.

Israeli-born painter Yigal Ozeri returns to themes of American iconography in his new solo exhibition, Road Trip, debuting October 22 at the Zemack Gallery in Tel Aviv.

The body of work features large-scale paintings of open highways, vintage automobiles, gas stations, diners, motels, and women in denim. Executed in Ozeri’s signature photorealistic style, the works initially resemble photographs but function as a deeper commentary on freedom, nostalgia, and the mythology of the fresh start.

While the imagery draws on universal symbols popularized by Hollywood cinema, the exhibition is rooted in Ozeri’s personal biography.

Ozeri’s work featured in Whitney Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum

Having immigrated from Israel to New York with his family, the artist utilizes these archetypal American backdrops to examine his own lived experience of seeking a new life in the “land of unlimited possibilities.”

Ozeri’s work is represented in major global institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

The exhibition opens with a celebratory reception on Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m. and will run through November 28.
