Riot Women season 2 gets promising update from BBC drama star

Translate

Riot Women star Amelia Bullmore has shared an exciting update about the second season of the hit BBC drama.

Written by Happy Valley's Sally Wainwright, Riot Women stars Bullmore as Yvonne Vaux, Joanna Scanlan as Beth Thornton, Rosalie Craig as Kitty Eckersley, Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess Burchill, and Tamsin Greig as Holly Gaskell.

Debuting last year, it revolves around five menopausal women who naturally decide to form a punk rock band. The show struck a chord with fans thanks to its candid exploration of the power of music and female friendship.

It was confirmed late last year that Riot Women would be returning for more episodes but not much else is currently known about the new season – however, Bullmore has now confirmed that production gets under way in February 2027.

When asked about the upcoming season, she told Hello!: "I fear I can't say anything at all!

"We don't start until February, so in the autumn we'll start to get the songs through and get our homework for the music, and then we'll be back in Hebden."

Bullmore added: "I have continued practising the guitar – number one because I loved it, number two because having learned something from scratch it seemed a sinful waste to drop it, and number three because I hoped we would need it again."

Speaking at this year's Radio Times Covers Party, the impressive cast shared their own theories on what season 2 could have in store.

Bullmore mapped out the upcoming season according to her, saying: "This is what I think, right? I think there's gonna be some good times, some bad times, I think there's gonna be some obstacles, there's gonna be some gigs..."

Greig added: "And there's gonna be a crafty midpoint that nobody's going to see coming."

Bullmore continued: "A very, very crushingly low point and then some sort of unequivocal resolution."

"And then a very peculiar sex act," Greig concluded.

All that we know for sure right now is that creator Wainwright previously teased season 2 "is where the fun really starts".
