Hogwarts Legacy was released roughly three years ago, but you wouldn't know it based on the current fan response. Many people are still playing through the game, working towards a 100% completion rate, or aimlessly flying through the greater Hogwarts area to find something new, even if it's an Easter egg.
But ever since launch, fans have been clamoring for multiplayer, allowing some semblance of replay value, especially if you're already cleared it four times, once with each house. Now, players can enter one of the final frontiers of Hogwarts Legacy: multiplayer. Based on a Reddit discussion, fans are extremely happy, and hope the feature makes it into Hogwarts Legacy 2.
A newly released mod has caught the attention of Hogwarts Legacy fans worldwide, and it currently lets players jointogether and explore. According to a player of the mod, "the server is Castle Life RP and it's running on Hogwarts MP, which is the multiplayer framework." In other words, you use the Hogwarts MP mod to connect with other people, and Castle Life RP is one of the most popular servers right now.
It's important to note that a lot of functionality isn't available, like a fully playable campaign in multiplayer, but you can hang out with others and explore the world together: "Fly around with your friends on brooms. I literally spend a big chunk of my Hogwarts time just flying around in VR because the game is so beautiful"
The best part? It doesn't impact existing mods, as a player points out: "No it shouldn't affect any of your previous mods. The multiplayer mod is sandboxed so it doesnt touch your base game. I shared the link to the discord which has instructions to install in another comment here"
As one user writes, this is filling a gap the original game left: "Man, we really need a new Wizarding World or Harry Potter game that offers coop, online and a more lively world with companions and friends." Another player points out the foundation of the mod: "The multiplayer mod HogwartsMP is built off MafiaHub, which is a stable framework that has been used to build several successful multiplayer mods for other games."
This isn't the only multiplayer mod for an open-world RPG by a longshot. Plenty of other modders have crafted multiplayer worlds for big games like The Witcher 3, and it'll remain one of the biggest modding pastimes going forward. If you're curious and want to try the multiplayer mod for Hogwarts Legacy, there's a link in the Reddit thread above to the multiplayer modding Discord. Currently, the mod is only available on PC, as you might expect.
This should certainly help keep you busy until Hogwarts Legacy 2, which we now know is 100% coming. We just don't know exactly when yet, and the only official word has come from a Warner Bros. letter to shareholders, which is not the most exciting way to reveal a game.
