Nations League: Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp Ahead Of Denmark Clash

Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he has officially left the Portugal camp midway through the international break.

He has stated that he ‘will tell the truth’ about why he has departed amid reported frustration over his lack of minutes.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute for Portugal in their 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday, with that being the first time in 18 years that he had not played a single minute despite being in the squad.

The footballing icon was said to be unhappy with that, leading to a crisis meeting being planned with manager Jorge Jesus and the Portuguese Football Federation.

Jesus has since spoken out to deny those rumours – but hours later Ronaldo has now dropped the bombshell statement that he has departed.

“After the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp,” he wrote on Instagram.

“In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team, to which I always devoted myself.

“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates good luck, without exception.”

Portugal still have two games left in their international break schedule, with the first of those coming on Thursday.

They take on Denmark in their third Nations League clash, with another meeting with Norway coming on Sunday.

A Selecao have won both of their outings in the competition so far, with Ronaldo having a goal disallowed against Wales.

He played 67 minutes in the 1-0 win over Craig Bellamy’s side before then playing no part against Norway.
