The Testaments season 2 casts Daredevil: Born Again favourite following Marvel show's confirmed ending next year

The Testaments has recruited a familiar Marvel face for its second season, with Deborah Ann Woll joining the Handmaid's Tale sequel just as her superhero series prepares to bow out.

Deadline first reported that Woll, who plays Karen Page in Daredevil: Born Again, has joined The Testaments as a recurring guest star for season 2.

Not only that, but it's also been announced that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Luke Kirby will also be joining the dystopian drama as a guest star.

It's been revealed that Woll will play Sylvia, a seamstress whose work keeps her in close proximity to the Wives and daughters of Gilead's Commanders. Kirby takes on the "literal-minded" role of Commander Fletcher, who is described as "a recluse living on a farm in one of Gilead's Colonies, where his eccentricities have made it difficult for him to find a wife."

The casting news lands at a poignant moment for Woll. It was only announced this week that Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again will be ending with its third season. Woll first played Karen Page in the 2015 Daredevil series before returning for the revived Born Again series – so fans will undoubtedly be excited to see her take on a brand new role in The Testaments.

Meanwhile, Kirby has recently appeared opposite Jennifer Garner in the second season of Apple TV's The Last Thing He Told Me, and next features in Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 4.

The pair join a Testaments cast that only continues to grow. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Charlie Carrick, who plays Commander Judd, has been promoted to a series regular for season 2, whilst Haley Wong joins the cast as new character Prudence.

Filming for season 2 kicked off last month in Canada, with the second season expected to be a bit more of a rebellious instalment as the ending of season 1 saw things reach quite the fever pitch for main characters Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Daisy (Lucy Halliday).

Based on Margaret Atwood's Booker Prize-winning 2019 novel, The Testaments follows Agnes and Daisy as they navigate Aunt Lydia's elite preparatory school for future wives. Ann Dowd reprises her Handmaid's Tale role of Aunt Lydia.

As of now, a synopsis for season 2 is yet to be revealed – but we can certainly expect more fireworks and drama, especially if a batch of new characters are also involved.
