'Broken social care will in the end break the NHS,' says Burnham

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has proposed a national care service, free at the point of use, to tackle England's "threadbare" social care services.

In an interview with BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, the prime minister said "broken social care will in the end break the NHS" and that he would not look in the other direction.

Burnham went on to say that he will develop a clear plan for a new national care service that is then put to the public at the next general election.

Shadow home secretary Chris Philp, who also spoke to Kuenssberg, warned that "more tax rises" are likely planned to fund the scheme, which is a "red line" for the Conservatives
