Hosts, Oluyole Warriors desperate for points in Owerri
Bottom-placed Kun Khalifat host the Oluyole Warriors at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, on Sunday, October 11, with both sides in urgent need of points as the Nigeria Premier Football League reaches Matchday 8.
The newly promoted Owerri side are 20th in the table with five points from seven games, having won one, drawn two and lost four. Their 14 goals conceded is the worst defensive record in the division, and they lost 1-0 to Niger Tornadoes last time out.
Forward Ahiaeke Chijioke has said the squad is prepared and focused for what he described as a big game.
- Chanji Boys end People’s Elephant unbeaten run
- PariPesa named official betting partner of Inter Lagos for NPFL 2026/27
- I’m happy to be in Nigerian football history – Obaje
He admitted the team must sharpen its cutting edge, saying “We need to try to score goals”, and expects the visitors to keep the same structure that has made them hard to break down.
Shooting Stars are 14th with eight points from seven matches, with two wins, two draws and three defeats. They opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos, but they have failed to score in their last two home games, goalless draws with Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars.
The second of those results brought calls from some supporters for the dismissal of technical adviser Salisu Yusuf. The pressure on him is mounting, and he will be desperate for a positive result away from home.
