The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe follows the timeless adventure of the four Pevensie siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, whose game of hide-and-seek leads them to discoverthe magical world of Narnia. There, they learn about their role in the people's century-long fight against the evil White Witch, whom they must defeat to fulfill the prophecy and become Narnia’s rightful rulers. Guided by the wise lion Aslan, the children lead Narnia's magical creatures into a spectacular climactic battle against the Witch's icy powers.

The 2005 live-action adaptation was based on C.S. Lewis’ classic 1950 novel. Shrek filmmaker Andrew Adamson directed the film, starring Georgie Henley as Lucy, Skandar Keynes as Edmund, William Moseley as Peter, and Anna Popplewell as Susan. They were joined by a stellar cast of acclaimed actors, including Tilda Swinton, James McAvoy, Liam Neeson, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, and James Cosmo.

During its theatrical run, it became the third-highest-grossing movie globally, earning over $745 million at the box office. The film also won one Academy Award out of three nominations for Best Achievement in Makeup.

Because of its commercial and critical success, Disney produced two more Chronicles of Narnia movies: 2008’s Prince Caspian, starring Ben Barnes, and 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, starring Will Poulter. Nearly over a decade later, Netflix has officially taken over the franchise with Gerwig writing and directing a live-action adaptation, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

Netflix's upcoming Narnia reboot will star Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, Denise Gough, and Meryl Streep, who's voicing Aslan. It debuts in theaters on February 12, 2027, then streams on Netflix on April 2, 2027.

While waiting for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’s 2027 release, audiences can first check out Disney’s upcoming 4K release of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on December 15, 2026.
